Recovering from a mistake

The person says: “That broke the menu, put it back.”

What can be taken back depends on how it went live: a promote and a change set have an undo; a live write made outside a set does not, and the platform says so instead of pretending.

  1. Empress:site_status — the versions section: newest first, each entry saying whether Empress:version_revert can undo it and, if not, what to do instead.
  2. Empress:site_preview — target: "live", to show the person what is wrong before changing anything.
  3. Empress:version_revert — to is the entry’s id from the versions section; ask the person, then confirm: true.
  4. Empress:site_preview — target: "live" again: the site as visitors now get it.
  5. Empress:site_status — the revert is itself an entry.
  • Not live yet? Nothing to revert. A draft or a stage never reached visitors: discard it from chat or the CLI, or stage something else over it.
  • Content stays published. Reverting a change set puts the theme and the menus back; content it published stays published, and the answer names each item to unpublish if the person wants that too (Empress:site_call with content_unpublish).
  • No undo listed? Say so plainly, and offer the forward fix: make the change again, the other way, in a change set.
  • Many sites. Revert each site’s set; see working-across-many-sites.
